The partnership goes into effect on January 1, 2025.

Subway also said it will continue to carry Frito-Lay products through 2030.

Jonathan Maze, editor-in-chief of Restaurant Business, posted his reaction to Subway’s announcement on TikTok.

Maze pointed out that the company didn’t renew its contract with Coca-Cola, leaving them for their major rival instead.

“The company said that doing so brings both its snack and beverage contract under a single provider, PepsiCo, which owns the snack giant Frito Lays.”

Users commented on the video to express their mixed reactions.

Many people thought it was great news.

“Best decision ever,” one user wrote.

“Guess Subway is officially out of my rotation,” someone else replied.

“Stupid move. There are lots of people who won’t drink Pepsi,” one user wrote.

Another commenter echoed their sentiment adding, “Pepsi’s trash.”

Maze explained why beverage contract switches happen since Coke and Pepsi are “fierce competitors in the food service business.”

He also said since Subway sells a lot of chips with its subs, working with Pepsi makes their contract cheaper and more efficient.

Maze noted this is a pivotal move for Subway, following the closure of 7,000 restaurants in the last decade.

“It is also really rare for a switch like this to happen,” Maze said.

He noted how despite challenges, Subway remains one of the 10 largest US restaurant chains.

NEW DRINKS

Beverage brands hitting stores next year as part of the agreement include:

  • Pepsi
  • Pepsi Zero Sugar
  • Mtn Dew
  • Starry Tropicana
  • Lipton
  • Aquafina
  • Gatorade

“The agreement with Subway represents two iconic companies coming together…,” said Anne Fink, president of PepsiCo Global Foodservice.

FOODIE NEWS

A former Dairy Queen worker revealed a secret about the chain’s milkshakes.

She admitted staff wouldn’t replace a shake or even remove whipped cream if a customer was given a shake and said they didn’t want it.

Instead, they would bring the shakes to the back and blend the whipped cream in.

Other TikTokers responded to the video and said they knew other chains that did this, like Sonic and Starbucks.
