- Nevada
- Texas
- California
- Arizona
The brand began liquidation sales for its remaining merchandise on April 5.

Customers shared their heartbreak over the closure of 99 Cents Only Stores on social media.
“This was one of the busiest stores in Merced and had inexpensive groceries,” a Facebook user wrote. “I’m gutted.”
“Sad!” said another user.
“Really helpful for a lot of people, including myself!”
One X user wrote it was the “end of an era,” as the chain first opened in 1982.
“So many households rely on buying everything they can there,” another person said.
Simoncic said the company struggled to recover from lasting economic challenges spurred by the pandemic.
He also said inflation and shrinkflation have “hindered” the company’s ability to operate effectively with shifting consumer demands.
The U.S. Sun contacted 99 Cents Only Stores for a comment.
CLOSING TIME
Fashion retailer Saks Fifth Avenue announced it is shutting down a location at a popular mall in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The company confirmed its plans to close the department store in July.
One social media user worried about a domino effect occurring within the mall that has been home to various luxury brands.
2024 store closures
The retail landscape has had a difficult few years following the pandemic and shoppers financiual struggles.
This has meant more and more stores across the country have decided to close their doors for good.
These closures have affected both local and national retailers and The U.S. Sun has reported on some of these shutdowns.
- The Roomplace will close multiple locations as it announced a huge sale
- An Amazon Fresh store in Seattle announced it will shut in a few days.
- A Walmart store in Maryland will close its doors today for the last time.
- Barnes & Noble announced it will close its largest location in a popular city
A popular pizza chain also shuttered 27 stores, and some workers got only a day’s notice.
Mod Pizza closed at least five locations in California, and employees felt burned by the lack of warning.
A shift manager from the pizzeria’s former Clovis location said he believed California’s new minimum wage rule might’ve been a factor.
The legislation raised the minimum wage for fast food workers in the state to $20 per hour.
