Tiny homes offer viable solutions for emerging adults or older folks looking to live more minimalistic lifestyles.
One TikToker (@tiny.projects) shared his tiny home journey, admitting he didn’t want to be saddled by mortgage fees.
Home prices rose 6.3% from January 2023 to January 2024, according to the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA).
The social media influencer revealed his workaround for avoiding such steep expenses, but it was no walk in the park.

He ordered a storage building he had delivered to his backyard and transformed it into a living space with some grit and dedication.
He said his lease ended in the summer, which is what ultimately pushed him toward the decision.
The user said he had looked at some new apartments for consideration.
“But I always hated the idea of renting instead of owning property,” he said in his video.
“The big problem was that, like most 22-year-olds, I couldn’t afford to have a whole mortgage hanging over my head.”
So instead of saving up, he chose to scale down on property size.
He found a company that delivered storage units with cabin-style porches.
Then he got to work on building a foundation and installing plumbing for the home.
He used a pier and beam platform anchored by concrete in the ground.
After he connected the beams to the piers, the TikToker lined his foundation with an oriented strand board.

“From here the house was able to slide right over the top of the foundation,” he said.
He added stairs to line the front porch and give the house a cozy feel.
Next, he had to insulate the walls inside the home. He used standard fiberglass despite hearing spray foam worked better.
“I’m doing this whole thing by myself, and I’ve never used spray foam before,” he said.
He used decorations for the home’s exterior, like a reef for the front door plus some landscaping touches.
