A WALMART customer is vowing to bring business to its rival after they expressed distaste for a new self-checkout rule at the retailer.
The shopper fired off on X about their store removing self-checkout.

“They really closed self-checkout at Walmart, and they got one cashier open so there’s a line 6:30 in the morning,” the user wrote.
“Target will see me now [be]cause I need convenience.”
Another customer called Walmart’s customer service “lousy.”
“I’d probably spend more time up at Meijer,” they added, referring to another popular grocery store.
The U.S. Sun contacted Walmart for a comment.
FLIP FLOP
Walmart faced criticism earlier this year for its self-checkout policy change.
Due to theft concerns, the store cracked down on raising employee assistance at self-checkout kiosks.
Many shoppers were also put off when several Walmart stores reserved self-checkout lanes for Walmart+ members only.
“I legit don’t want to go back to my good super center ever again,” one person posted on X.
“This was supposed to be a simple grocery trip and became the most aggravating experience ever.”
OFF-TARGET
Consumers have said they will ditch the multinational giant for its long-time competitor, Target.
However, Target also has been questioned for its self-checkout policy change.
Last fall, the brand surveyed new express self-checkout lanes across 200 stores with 10 items or less for more convenience.
“We’ll continue evolving to match guests with the right checkout options so they can get what they need,” Target said in a press release.
“Alongside same-day fulfillment services like Drive Up, Order Pick Up, and Target’s same-day delivery. It’s all in service to demonstrate the convenience, joy, and value of the Target run.”
Target customers have painted a different picture.
One X user wrote that their store’s line stretched to the back of the building due to understaffing.
“I don’t even know what to say about this. One cashier?!” they blasted, including a viral photo with 27 million views.
Another user posted, “Local Target shut down self-checkout” with a meme of someone screaming.
GROCERY NEWS
In other news, Whole Foods is rolling out a new downsizing concept to meet the fast-paced needs of urban consumers.
The chain was acquired by Amazon in 2017 and is set to introduce its first quick-shop convenience store in New York City this year.
The 7,000 to 14,000-square-foot store offers grab-and-go meals, kitchen ingredients, smoothies, sandwiches, desserts, and more.
After the location opens, more stores are expected to open across US metro areas if it’s successful.
