Chase bank suddenly closed my account and all I got was a letter – I was told they can’t ‘maintain it’

A HIGH schooler said they were locked out of their JPMorgan Chase account without an explanation.

The user shared their experience on Reddit, alleging Chase sent them an unexpected letter in the mail.

“I’m 17 and had a high school checking account with Chase,” they claimed.

They said they called a Chase representative when the letter told them their account was getting shuttered.

“They said, ‘They can’t maintain my account.’ What does this mean and was it something I did?”

The U.S. Sun contacted JPMorgan Chase to request a comment.

REDDIT RESPONDS

Redditors replied on the thread offering possible reasons or their suggestions for the next steps.

One user said their account could have been closed if Chase suspected fraud and suggested they look for a new bank.

“Did you do anything sketchy with the account?” they asked.

“Make any recent unusual deposits for you or start moving money in and out of the account a lot?”

The Redditor said they barely made deposits or spent money on the account since they had recently quit their job.

They said they’d often use PayPal and CashApp to split dinners with their friends, the only thing they thought could look suspicious.

“The biggest recent purchase I made in the past three months was $40 at a restaurant so I’m really confused,” they wrote.

“Was there a parent or guardian listed as a signer on the account?” asked another user.

They weren’t familiar with Chase’s services but said most financial institutions require an adult’s consent for a minor’s bank account.

“Yes, and she wasn’t even aware they were closing my account!” the user responded.

“Her accounts are perfectly fine and staying but mine is the one that was closed.”

“Honestly, Chase will shut your account down over any and everything they don’t like,” one person said.

MINORS AT CHASE

Chase lists fraudulent activity or inactivity as possible reasons a bank may close a user’s account, as stated on its website.

The company also states it has the right to close a member’s account without explanation.

Chase says a parent or guardian must sign off on a minor opening a bank account on their behalf.

Minors looking to open bank accounts must provide certain documentation like a Social Security card or birth certificate.

While some accounts can be opened online depending on the branch, other businesses require the child and guardian to visit a local branch.

BANKING BLUNDERS

Chase isn’t the only bank customers have experienced issues with.

A Bank of America client said the bank misled them to overextend their spending limits.

While they banked with Bank of America for 16 years, the user concluded “Bank of America will not take care of you.”

They took out a credit card when told they’d get a $200 bonus if they spent $1,000 within the first 90 days of the account opening.

There was a misunderstanding with the type of card and account they signed up for.

Bank of America representatives only realized this after the user said they spent $1,000 and apologized but couldn’t offer a solution.

Also, a Wells Fargo client had $90,000 stolen from his account, but he said the bank’s “acting like it’s nothing.”

A couple has been trying to get $1,800 back on their escrow, but Huntington Bank can’t help them.
