Eric Miller (@thecoinchannel) shared his insights in a TikTok video that quickly went viral with 43,800 likes and over 200 comments.

He told his followers the first 2024 penny error had been detected.

“Soon enough in your daily pocket change, you should start seeing 2024 pennies,” he said, noting how they’re in current circulation.

Miller said his tip would put viewers one step ahead of everyone else.

“You can turn your pennies into at least $30 by knowing this new error,” he said in his video.

THREE LETTERS

Miller showed a picture of a new 2024 penny and its standard shield cent symbol on the reverse side.

“But all of these should have three letters right there, V, D, [and] B,” he said while zooming in on the bottom of Abraham Lincoln’s profile.

The coin expert said an error caused some 2024 coins to be minted without the letter engravings.

He displayed an eBay listing for one of the coins selling for $36.99.

“Hopefully this is the first of many 2024 errors that will be showing up,” he said, claiming the mint, “always makes mistakes.”

A LITTLE HISTORY

The initials of “VDB” stand for Victor David Brenner, according to the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS).

He was an artist who designed the original Lincoln scent.

Pennies including the VDB symbol can be rare too, as The U.S. Sun previously reported.

Due to controversy over the placement and size of the nickels, only 484,000 of the coins were minted.

What is a die break or error on a coin?

What causes such defects on coins and why are they so rare to find?

A die break, also known as a cud, is an error on a coin that is formed when a die, (a metallic piece that is used to strike a coin) is missing a piece near the rim.

When dies strike coins, they have a heavy impact and pressure and the metal from the blank part of the coin, known as the planchet, overlaps the area left by the missing piece of the die.

Coins with such deformities are rare thanks to the strict quality control measures at the US Mint.

When such errors do occur, they are often caught and destroyed.

However, those that slip through the net become huge collector’s items worth much more than their face value.

Lincoln pennies aren’t the only coins with rare value though.

Two friends and metal detector enthusiasts went on a coin adventure and dug up an 1893 Indian Head Cent.

The friends shared their discovery on a YouTube account called Hoover Boys.

The coin shows Lady Liberty in a headdress, and the friends said they hadn’t found an Indian Head Cent before.

It’s auctioned for $4,370 according to the PCGS, while another listing valued it at $34,500 on Heritage Auctions.

The U.S. Sun has related content on rare items like dollar bills or toys and collectibles.

A woman’s family heirloom was valued at $30,000 due to its historical significance.

Meanwhile, one couple dug out a trashed violin worth $50,000.
